B.C. SOGI 123 “defunded” claim: real political signal, not proof the issue is gone

Short verdict
Partly true, but overstated. The old B.C. government SOGI page now says it has moved to a broader Diversity and inclusion page, and the ConservativeBC post is real. But official B.C. pages still host SOGI-related resource PDFs, and the current diversity page still uses sexual orientation and gender identity language under safe, caring and inclusive schools. I did not find an official notice saying the whole SOGI 123 system is abolished province-wide.
What changed
The visible government change is that the old “Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI)” page now tells readers to visit the broader “Diversity and inclusion” page. That broader page describes safe, caring and inclusive schools and names race, culture, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and ability.
That is a meaningful political signal. It may mean the NDP government is moving away from the “SOGI 123” brand. But that is not the same as proving every SOGI-related resource, district policy, teacher practice, or outside-organization support has disappeared.
Short history
SOGI means sexual orientation and gender identity. B.C. government materials and CBC reporting describe SOGI 123 as school resources, not a stand-alone curriculum. The materials were developed around 2015–2016 with the Ministry of Education, ARC Foundation, Out in Schools, BCTF, UBC and educators.
CBC reported that SOGI 123 became a major B.C. election flashpoint, with Conservatives promising to end or replace it and educators/supporters arguing it was anti-bullying and inclusion support. Castanet reported in 2026 that Peter Milobar continued to pledge repeal or a reset as part of the B.C. Conservative leadership debate.
What parents can fairly say
Parents can fairly say the SOGI brand is under serious political pressure in B.C. Parents can also say the official government SOGI page has been de-emphasized or folded into a broader diversity page.
Parents should be careful not to overclaim that SOGI is gone everywhere. District policies, teacher materials, ARC/SOGI Education resources, government PDFs, and classroom practices can continue even if a provincial funding line or webpage changes.

PBC bottom line
The Facebook graphic is useful as a pressure marker, not as final proof. The parental-rights fight over SOGI in B.C. is not over. If the province truly ended funding or cancelled a contract, the next step is to obtain the budget line, contract notice, ministry confirmation, or FOI record. Until then, call it a partial win and keep watching the paper trail.
