What the video claims
The Lunatics and Legends Facebook caption says Raul Mendez was shot in the head at point-blank range during a Fourth of July family gathering; his pregnant wife thought he was dead; he got back up, ran toward the gunfire, and stopped the attacker before more people were killed.
The downloaded transcript begins with Mendez recounting a July party with his pregnant wife and daughters, a neighbor entering the gathering, the first shots, Mendez being hit in the head, and his wife protecting the children.
What the video itself shows
The footage is an interview/podcast recording. It shows two men in a studio with microphones and headphones. It does not show the incident, emergency response, police bodycam, courtroom evidence, dispatch audio, a weapon being used, or a live crime scene.
What outside sources corroborate
Fox News reported that Arizona resident and concealed-carry holder Raul Mendez was at a July 3 Fourth of July party when suspect Jason Hunt opened fire. Fox reported that two men were killed and four others, including Mendez, were seriously injured, and that the rampage ended when Mendez shot Hunt four times.
A later Fox News article said Mendez became an NRA instructor and was training others in self-defense. Athlon Outdoors/Ballistic also reported the same core account: Hunt, described as the host’s neighbor, opened fire; Mendez was shot in the head; his pregnant wife protected children; and Mendez drew from concealment and stopped the attacker.
Those sources support the core story. They are still later media/advocacy-context reports, not a police report reproduced on PBC.
Canadian caution
This story happened in the United States, in an Arizona concealed-carry context. Canada has very different firearms storage, transport, carry and self-defence rules. Canadian law differs sharply from the Arizona concealed-carry context in this story. Readers should not treat a U.S. defensive-gun-use story as Canadian legal guidance.
The useful Canadian question is not “copy this.” The useful question is: what does this case show about response time, survivor testimony, media attention, defensive-use statistics, and how claims should be checked before they become public arguments?

Real kernel: Raul Mendez’s story is a documented U.S. defensive-gun-use account with later media corroboration. Evidence limit: the Facebook video is a personal podcast interview, not primary incident footage or an official police file.
