Canada MAID “100,000 killings” Reel checked: official total is 76,475 through 2024; six figures is a 2026 estimate

The Reel’s core concern is real: Canadian MAID numbers have risen sharply since legalization. The exact “100,000” claim needs a label: it is an advocacy estimate for spring 2026, not a published Health Canada cumulative total yet.

Verdict: official Health Canada data confirms 76,475 MAID provisions through Dec. 31, 2024 and 16,499 in 2024. The Reel’s “passed 100,000 by mid-to-late April 2026” wording matches Alex Schadenberg/Euthanasia Prevention Coalition’s projection, but remains an estimate until a later official report confirms 2025–2026 totals.

What the Reel says

Asked how many people had been killed “through the MAID program,” the speaker says his data passed 100,000 in mid-to-late April, counting from June 2016 to April 2026, and calls them “killings.”

What official records say

Health Canada’s 2024 report says 16,499 people received MAID in 2024.
Health Canada says 76,475 MAID provisions were reported since legalization through Dec. 31, 2024.

Where 100,000 comes from

Alex Schadenberg of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition projected about 17,650 MAID deaths in 2025, giving an estimated 94,125 cumulative total by Dec. 31, 2025, and projected Canada would cross 100,000 in mid-to-late April 2026. That explains the Reel’s number, but it is not the same as a Health Canada official cumulative count.

PBC framing: “MAID has become a major Canadian mortality and ethics issue” is source-backed. “100,000 official deaths” is premature unless marked as an estimate. “Killings” is the speaker’s moral/legal framing, not Health Canada’s neutral category.

[8.48-13.56] So that would be since June of 2016 until mid to late April of 2026. [13.56-17.16] So in less than 10 years, we surpassed 100,000 killings. [17.16-19.08] And I call it killings because that's what it is. [19.08-21.00] People listening might say, Oh, I don't like to hear that. [21.00-22.12] No, that's what it is.
