Von der Leyen savings clip: English subtext added and official transcript checked
PBC preserved the Tablesalt X video of Ursula von der Leyen at a BFMTV/MEDEF Paris event, added clean English subtext inside the lower part of the video, and checked the wording against the official European Commission transcript.
Evidence label: The official transcript supports the narrower claim that von der Leyen said European household savings are “sitting idle,” cited EUR 10 trillion in bank deposits, and promoted the Savings and Investment Union. The X caption’s “coming for your savings” framing is a warning/opinion, not a direct quote proving confiscation.
English subtext added
[0.00–6.20] Europe has savings. Unfortunately, these savings are idle/lazy. [6.20–13.80] €10 trillion of household savings still sit in bank deposits. [13.80–21.60] A significant part of European savings is invested outside our continent. [21.60–29.00] Europe must now put these savings at the service of its companies. [29.00–37.50] We have put proposals on the table: securitisation, bank and insurance investments. [37.50–47.50] Also: integration of our markets and their supervision. [47.50–57.40] Together, they can unlock up to €470 billion of additional investment. Source note: X post by @Tablesalt13 preserved the BFMTV/MEDEF clip of Ursula von der Leyen. The clip already displayed English captions; PBC added clearer English subtext inside the lower part of the frame plus source attribution. “Idle/lazy” is noted because French commentary around the clip used paresseuse/paresseux; official/English renderings may prefer “idle.”
What the official transcript says
“But Europe has savings. And unfortunately, those savings are sitting idle. Today, EUR 10 trillion in household savings are kept in bank accounts. And a large share of Europe's savings is invested outside our continent. Europe now needs to put these savings to work for its companies. This is the goal of the ‘savings and investment union'. We have tabled proposals on securitisation, on bank and insurance investments, and on the integration and supervision of our markets. Together, these measures could unlock up to EUR 470 billion in additional investment.”
